Insulation Removal

Old insulation contaminated by rodents, water, smoke, or mold needs to come out before anything new goes in. Utah Valley Foam removes fiberglass batts, blown-in fiberglass, and cellulose from attics and crawl spaces across Provo, Orem, and Utah County, using sealed vacuum equipment that keeps the mess out of your living space. When Removal Is Necessary

  • Rodent contamination. Mice and raccoons nest in attic insulation, and their droppings and urine stay behind long after the pests are gone. This is the most common removal call in Utah Valley.
  • Water damage. Roof leaks and ice dams soak insulation, which then grows mold and loses its R-value permanently.
  • Smoke or fire damage. Insulation holds smoke odor indefinitely.
  • Prep for spray foam. Roof deck foam jobs require the old floor insulation out of the way to do the work right. See attic insulation.

How the Process Works

We run a high-powered insulation vacuum with a hose routed from the attic or crawl space directly to a collection system outside. Old material never travels through your hallways. After removal we HEPA vacuum the cavity, and the space is ready for new insulation the same day in most homes.

Insulation Removal Pricing FAQ

How much does insulation removal cost?

Attic insulation removal typically runs $1.00 to $2.00 per square foot, so $1,000 to $2,500 for most Utah County attics. Heavy rodent contamination or deep blown-in material sits at the top of that range. We quote removal and reinsulation as separate line items so you can see both numbers.

Can I remove old insulation myself?

You can, but contaminated insulation is a respiratory hazard, and bagging an attic by hand takes most homeowners a full weekend plus disposal fees. Vacuum removal does the same job in hours with nothing airborne in the house.
